TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication)

The TOEIC is used by employers to test English language ability for the workplace.

Paper 1 and 2 are taken in one session, then Paper 3 and 4 in another session.

Listening and Reading are taken in one session, then Speaking and Writing in another session.

Paper 1: Listening (25% of final grade)

Paper 2: Reading (25% of final grade)

Listening and Reading Papers are worth 50% of final grade.

Paper 3: Speaking (25% of final grade)

Paper 4: Writing (25% of final grade)

Speaking and Writing Papers are worth 50% of final grade.

Listening and Reading are scored on a scale of 5 to 495, with a total score range of 10 to 990.

Reading is scored on a scale of 5 to 495.

Speaking and Writing are both scored on a scale of 0 to 200.

Paper 1: Listening 🔊

There are 4 tasks.

Task 1: Photos, 6 questions. Choose the best statement to describe the photo.

Task 2: Question-Response, 25 questions. Listen to a question, then chose best response from a choice of 3.

Task 3: Conversations, 30 questions. Listen to 10 talks, with 3 questions each.

Task 4: Talks, 30 questions. Listen to 10 talks, with 3 questions each.

Paper 2: Reading 📖

There are 3 parts. There are 100 questions.

Task 5: Incomplete sentences, 30 questions. Complete sentence with a missing word or phrase.

Task 6: Text completion, 16 questions. Choose best answer to fill in gaps.

Task 7: Reading comprehension, 54 questions.

Single texts, 29 questions. 2 or more texts, 25 questions.

(The reading exam lasts 75 minutes.)

Paper 3: Speaking 💬

There are 11 tasks.

Task 1: Read a text aloud.

Task 2: Read a text aloud.

Task 3: Describe a picture.

Task 4: Respond to questions.

Task 5: Respond to questions.

Task 6: Respond to questions.

Task 7: Respond to questions – using information given.

Task 8: Respond to questions – using information given.

Task 9: Respond to questions – using information given.

Task 10: Suggest a solution.

Task 11: Express an opinion.

(The speaking exam lasts 20 minutes.)

Paper 4: Writing ✍️

There are 8 tasks.

Task 1: Write a sentence based on a picture.

Task 2: Write a sentence based on a picture.

Task 3: Write a sentence based on a picture.

Task 4: Write a sentence based on a picture.

Task 5: Write a sentence based on a picture.

Task 6: Respond to a written request.

Task 7: Respond to a written request.

Task 8: Write an opinion essay.

(The writing exam lasts 60 minutes.)
