KET (Key English Test) – A2

KET tests ability to use English in everyday situations.

There are 3 papers.

Paper 1: Reading and Writing

Paper 2: Listening

Paper 3: Speaking

Paper 1: Reading and Writing πŸ“– ✍️

The reading and writing paper is divided into 2 sections, with 9 parts.

Reading

Part 1: Read 5 short texts. For example, a sign or a message. Answer multiple-choice questions.

Part 2: Read 5 descriptions of people. Match with 8 short texts.

Part 3: Read a longer text, then answer 5 multiple-choice questions.

Part 4: Read a longer text, then answer 7 True/False questions.

Part 5: Read a text with 8 gaps, then fill in the gaps with multiple-choice options.

Writing

Part 6: Read a text with 6 gaps. Write a word to fill the gaps.

Part 7: Complete a form, based on information given.

Part 8: Read a text, then answer one or 2 questions.

Part 9: Write a short message based on a given situation. Write 25 to 23 words.

The Reading and Writing test lasts 70 minutes.

Paper 2: Listening πŸ”Š

The listening paper has 5 parts.

Part 1: Listen to 5 short conversations. Answer multiple-choice questions.

Part 2: Listen to a longer conversation or monologue. Answer multiple-choice questions.

Part 3: Listen to a longer conversation or monologue. Answer gap fill questions.

Part 4: Listen to 5 short conversations. Answer questions.

Part 5: Listen to a longer conversation or monologue. Answer matching questions.

The listening test lasts 30 minutes (and 8 minutes for transferring answers).

Paper 3: Speaking πŸ’¬

The speaking paper has 2 parts.

Part 1: The examiner will ask you questions about yourself.

Part 2: Collaborative task, with one or 2 other students and 2 examiners. Discuss and make decisions, based on visual prompts.

The Speaking test lasts 8 to 10 minutes.
